The journey

Game viewing before a forest encounter that deserves its own space.

This route gives Uganda’s contrasting landscapes the time they need. Begin around Queen Elizabeth National Park with private game drives and an unhurried boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, then continue south through changing countryside to the forested hills of Bwindi.

The gorilla trek is not treated as one hurried item on a long checklist. We place it after a proper overnight in the forest, keep the afternoon clear, and shape the lodge selection around the comfort and privacy you value. Your final proposal reflects permit availability, seasonal road conditions and how you prefer to travel.

Day by day

The rhythm of the route.

Each day has room for the actual distances, weather and wildlife that make Uganda memorable.

Day 01

Arrival in Entebbe: an easy beginning

Meet your private driver-guide on arrival and transfer to your selected Entebbe hotel. Keep the first evening simple: a relaxed dinner, a route briefing and the chance to settle before the journey begins. If your flight arrives early, we can add a gentle lakeside activity without making the day feel full.

Day 02

Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth: into western Uganda

After breakfast, leave Entebbe in a private vehicle for western Uganda. This is a scenic travel day, so we build in sensible comfort stops and lunch rather than treating the drive as time to be endured. Arrive at your lodge in or near Queen Elizabeth National Park with time to enjoy the view before dinner.

Day 03

Queen Elizabeth: private game drive and Kazinga Channel

Set out early with your private guide while the park is cool and wildlife is active. The day is shaped around current sightings and your interests, from elephants and buffalo to birdlife and big cats when conditions allow. Later, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a calm and exceptionally wildlife-rich way to experience the park.

Day 04

Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi: a purposeful transition

Travel south toward Bwindi through the changing landscapes of western Uganda. The journey is part of the route, moving from open savannah through villages and highland country into the forested region around the park. Arrive in good time to settle at the lodge, prepare equipment and have a restful evening before trekking.

Day 05

Bwindi: mountain gorilla trekking

After an early breakfast, attend the park briefing and join your ranger-led trek. Trail conditions and walking time vary with the gorilla family’s location, so this is deliberately the centre of the day. The hour spent with the gorillas is extraordinary; return to the lodge afterwards for recovery, a good meal and a quiet evening in the forest.

Day 06

A second Bwindi day, shaped around your priorities

Choose a second gorilla trek, a gentle forest or community experience, or simply time to enjoy an exceptional lodge. We recommend the extra night because it makes the trek feel like part of a journey rather than a single high-pressure activity. Your final plan follows your permit options, energy level and interests.

Day 07

Return to Entebbe or continue your East Africa journey

Return by private road or, where preferred, fly through the regional schedule to Entebbe for onward travel. We will time the final day around your flight and discuss whether a Nile, Rwanda or Kenya extension would give the overall holiday the shape you want.

Before you decide

Useful answers for this Uganda safari.

Are gorilla permits included in the planning range?

Permits are discussed and confirmed separately against availability. The per-person, per-day range gives you a clear way to compare accommodation and service levels before the final proposal.

Is this route suitable for a first safari?

Yes. It combines classic game viewing with the forest experience in a logical flow. We make the practical differences between the two environments clear before you travel.

Can the route be upgraded to luxury or high-end?

Absolutely. Uganda has outstanding lodge options in Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi. We will explain what changes in privacy, access, room style and service so the decision is useful.
