The journey

A Serengeti route that gives each day a reason to be there.

This itinerary is built for travellers who want to experience the northern Serengeti beyond a quick migration stop. It uses a light-aircraft connection to protect wildlife time, adds a central Serengeti chapter for depth and then gives the north three nights so your guide can work with conditions. The result is a more comfortable route and a much better chance to experience the variety of the park rather than spending your journey chasing a single event.

We plan around the migration without making promises nature cannot keep. The herds move with rain, grazing and weather, and river crossings are never scheduled. Your guide follows reliable current information, the camp is selected for your travel period and the daily plan remains flexible. That is how the northern Serengeti feels considered rather than speculative.

Day by day

The complete route.

Suggested stays are names only, so the daily plan remains clear. Live availability and the best matching property are confirmed with you before booking.

Day 1

Fly into central Serengeti and begin with a private game-drive transfer.

Fly from Arusha to Seronera, where your private guide meets you at the airstrip. The first drive passes through classic central Serengeti habitats: grassland, kopjes and river systems that support resident wildlife across the year. Stop for a picnic or arrive at camp in time for lunch, then use the late afternoon for a slower orientation drive. This opening day establishes a relaxed safari rhythm before you move north.

Day 2

A full day in central Serengeti before the northern transfer.

Spend a full day exploring the centre rather than treating it as a transit point. Your guide may follow cats around the kopjes, spend time in the Seronera valleys or work the open plains according to wildlife movement. The second game-drive window is as important as the first: you can return to camp for rest or stay out with a picnic if the day is particularly rewarding. This gives the itinerary a strong base even if migration activity in the north changes.

Day 3

Travel north through the park; arrive in Mara River country.

After breakfast, begin the safari drive north. The route is treated as part of the experience, with time for wildlife sightings, landscapes and a sensible picnic stop. The distance is real, so we do not present it as a short hop; moving through the Serengeti is one of the reasons this itinerary needs six days. Reach your northern camp in the afternoon or early evening, settle in and enjoy the more remote mood of the Mara River region.

Day 4

Full private day in northern Serengeti and Mara River areas.

Set out at first light with the flexibility to follow the day. Depending on the season and current wildlife movement, your guide may work the river corridors, open northern plains or quieter tracks around camp. If herds are close, the day can focus on their movement and the broader river environment; if not, northern Serengeti still offers rich wildlife, dramatic scenery and a slower pace. You choose whether to return for lunch or stay out with a picnic.

Day 5

A second northern day with room for patient game viewing.

Use another full day to give the north the patience it deserves. Your guide can revisit a promising area at a different time of day, look for cats, elephants and birdlife in the riverine woodland, or simply follow the changing evidence of wildlife movement. This is the day that makes the northern chapter feel complete: it gives you space to wait when a sighting is worth waiting for, and space to move on when it is not.

Day 6

Final northern game drive and flight onward.

Enjoy an early drive on the way to the selected northern airstrip. Your exact departure point—often chosen among Kogatende, Lamai or another appropriate option—will be confirmed with the camp and flight plan. Fly back to Arusha, onward to Zanzibar or into the next part of your East Africa journey. We confirm current flight details, baggage terms and transfer timing before travel so the ending is clear and unhurried.

Before you decide

Useful answers, stated clearly.

Is this a fixed departure or a private itinerary?

This is a private itinerary and a detailed starting point. We shape it around your dates, group, preferred pace and the accommodation level you want.

Are the listed prices the total cost of the safari?

No. They are planning ranges per person, per day, as requested. The final proposal is based on your exact travel period, party size, camp choice and any internal flights or special experiences.

Can we change the accommodation level during the journey?

Yes. A thoughtful journey can combine levels of stay. We explain the effect of each choice and build a balanced route without pushing one standard across every night.

Will we see the migration?

The Serengeti is rewarding throughout the year, and we position the route around likely seasonal movement where relevant. Wildlife movement is natural and cannot be guaranteed, so we explain the opportunity honestly and give the journey value beyond one sighting.
