Arrive in Kigali
Meet your private driver-guide on arrival and transfer to your Kigali hotel. Keep the evening as light as you need: a simple welcome dinner, a city introduction or a quiet early night before the longer forest transfer tomorrow.
Private Rwanda forest circuit
A deeper private Rwanda safari through Nyungwe Forest, Lake Kivu and Volcanoes National Park. Chimpanzees and gorillas are given the time they deserve, with considered transfer days and lodge choices that keep the journey rewarding from start to finish.
The journey
Rwanda’s forest destinations are at their best when the route does not ask too much of any one day. This eight-day journey gives Nyungwe time for chimpanzees and the forest atmosphere, uses Lake Kivu as a genuine pause, then arrives in Volcanoes National Park ready for the gorilla experience.
It is a more immersive private itinerary for couples, families and small groups. We tailor the accommodation tier, the permit activity mix and the road or air connections around your dates, energy and the level of privacy you prefer.
Day by day
A richer Rwanda route that keeps the major experiences distinct and gives each region its own mood.
Meet your private driver-guide on arrival and transfer to your Kigali hotel. Keep the evening as light as you need: a simple welcome dinner, a city introduction or a quiet early night before the longer forest transfer tomorrow.
Travel west through Rwanda’s hills and tea country toward Nyungwe Forest. We plan a comfortable private transfer with sensible stops, rather than treating this as a lost day. Arrive at your lodge in time to settle into the forest setting and discuss the following morning’s primate activity.
Leave early for the park briefing and chimpanzee trek. As with gorilla trekking, the experience is shaped by the primates’ movement and the forest terrain. Return to the lodge after the trek for a relaxed afternoon, with time to enjoy the property, listen to the forest and recover properly.
Today can hold the canopy walk, birding, a guided forest trail or simply more lodge time. We will recommend the best use of the day based on your interests and what is already included in your permit plan. A second Nyungwe night lets you experience the forest without forcing every activity into one morning.
Depart Nyungwe after breakfast and travel north along the western side of the country toward Lake Kivu. The lake offers a lovely contrast to the forest: open views, a slower atmosphere and the chance to relax before the final wildlife chapter. Your evening is left easy by design.
Enjoy a relaxed morning by the lake, then continue to the volcanic north. Arrive at the Volcanoes lodge with time to settle, meet the local team if needed and prepare for your gorilla trek. The difference in landscape makes this final transition memorable in its own right.
After the morning briefing, begin your gorilla trek with the ranger team. The duration is variable and the route is part of the adventure. The hour with the gorillas is intense and moving; we keep the rest of the day clear for a late lunch, a massage, a swim or a slow evening by the fire.
Return privately to Kigali after breakfast, timed around your flight. If you have additional days, we can add Akagera for a savannah contrast, extend at Lake Kivu or connect the route to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania or Zanzibar.
